Up on Mt. Veeder, you have to wind up a long road before arriving at Duane Wall’s picturesque vineyard.  Duane’s relentless passion for this vineyard is evidenced in the fantastic quality of the grapes he grows. The Cabernet from this remote vineyard has a dense purple color with classic crème de cassis, black plum and cedar characteristics.



The 2006 growing season began with a wet, long winter resulting in a slightly delayed budbreak. Summer was quite hot, followed by a slightly cooler fall. The cooler autumn extended harvest, resulting in grapes with complex flavors and aromas. The later harvest also allowed for an ideal acid balance to develop in the grapes, lending to Cabernets that will age elegantly for years to come.



This is the third vintage of our Wall Cabernet and we’re delighted that it continues to be a favorite of many.  My son Adam and I made this Cab like we make all our reds – pick the fruit when the tannins are ripe so only minimal winemaker intervention will be needed.  We added 10% of Cabernet Franc from the Wall Vineyard, giving it additional layers of complexity.  After crushing, the juice was fermented and then aged for almost two years in some of my favorite thin-staved French oak barrels that are made by Duane Wall.  A cooper in addition to a wine grower, Duane and his talents give a fantastic synergy to the resulting wine.
