Up on Mt. Veeder, you have to wind up a long road before arriving at Duane Wall’s picturesque vineyard.  Duane’s relentless passion for this vineyard is evidenced in the fantastic quality of the grapes he grows. The Cabernet from this remote vineyard has a dense purple color with classic crème de cassis, black plum and cedar characteristics.

2004 is the first vintage of our Wall Cabernet, yet my son Adam and I made this Cabernet like we make all our reds– pick the fruit when the tannins are ripe so only minimal winemaker intervention will be needed. After crushing, the juice was fermented and then aged for almost two years in some of my favorite thin-staved French oak barrels that are actually made by Duane Wall. A cooper in addition to a wine grower, there is some fantastic synergy in the resulting wine.

Winemaker Comments

The wine pops with mint, blackberry and spice aromas that lead into intense rich fruit and spice flavors and powerful tannins. There is nothing demure about this wine, from its passionate wine grower and cooper, to its big structured tannins and long finish. I expect it will age for many years to come and can’t wait to be able to sit on the picnic bench at Duane’s vineyard and taste multiple vintages with him.”
